We respond to a piece in The Field on the subject of shooting woodock.

We all believe in The Code of Good Shooting Practice, don’t we? Well, we certainly should, because it has been written by our representative organisations as set of principles that any decent sportsman or woman should not just accept, but embrace and promote.

With the Guardian reporting declines in rabbit populations and the importance of intervention in their management, we thought it the ideal time to reflect on how they’re getting on our Scottish demonstration farm.

Favourable Condition assessments of habitats on designated sites are undertaken by country agencies such as Natural England and NatureScot for JNCC as part of our statutory duties, and these are now being used as a benchmark for natural capital policy initiatives. 

In a survey of over 2,500 individuals at the beginning of 2021, four percent had made the switch away from lead, 20% had started testing alternatives, and a further 28% were planning to do so in the coming season.
