At the beginning of this week Natural Resources Wales, on behalf of Welsh Government, launched their 12-week public consultation on their proposals to license gamebird releasing in Wales. It is absolutely critical that everyone with an interest in shooting in Wales, whether from Wales or not, respond, offering constructive and considered responses. The number and quality of responses will be incredibly important, so please share the links with others and encourage them to respond. 

Last week, applications opened for the 2024 Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier scheme, providing grants to farmers and land managers to improve the wildlife potential of their land and enhance their natural capital. The scheme supports a range of enhanced environmental outcomes from restoring wildlife habitats and creating woodlands, to managing flood risk.

On Monday 27th March Natural Resources Wales (NRW), on behalf of Welsh Government, launched a 12-week public consultation on their proposals to licence gamebird releasing in Wales. They propose to move pheasant and red-legged partridge onto Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 which would make it illegal to release these gamebirds except under licence.

The main issues and threats facing Scotland’s four iconic grouse species and the vital role they play in the biodiversity of our woodlands and uplands are the subject of a symposium taking place at Balhousie Castle, Perth, on Friday 5 May 2023 organised by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust and the World Pheasant Association. The event is generously supported by Hampden & Co.

The GWCT Allerton Project is a 320ha mixed arable and livestock farm based around the small village of Loddington on the Leicestershire/Rutland border (and not to be confused with Loddington in Northamptonshire).
