With temperatures warming and the days getting longer, breeding Lapwing will shortly be back in the Avon Valley. We have been a busy team this winter, establishing 2 new breeding wader hotspot sites and monitoring wintering waterfowl and waders. So, before we get into the 2019 season, we thought it would make sense to reflect on 2018.

NFU President Minette Batters and GWCT’s long-serving biodiversity advisor Pete Thompson braved StormErik to go bird-spotting on the first day of the 2019 Big Farmland Bird Count (BFBC).

Richard Leach, national sales and marketing manager with game feed manufacturer Keepers Choice says the substantial drop in the use of antibiotics in rearing game birds is vindication of self-regulation.

As a placement student at the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, you are provided with accommodation. There are usually around 6-8 students on placement throughout the year and they are split between two cottages, which are both found on the site of the GWCT.

The British Shooting Show is held during February each year, and is now the largest indoor trade and retail shooting event in the UK.  For anyone with an interest in shooting, conservation or game keeping, the show has everything you could ever need, want or dream of.

This spring we can look forward to a season packed full of exciting GWCT events and courses, including our first ever Game Scotland Conference.
