The art competition was launched for the 16th time in August 2019, giving pupils and teachers time to plan their winning images in time for a late October closing date. The judges again had a hard time picking the winners but thoroughly enjoyed going through the 370 superb entries from 19 different schools across the region.
The prizegiving, held in early December, was hosted in the AK Bell library. Adam Smith of the GWCT, along with Councillor Shires from Perth and Kinross Council, opened the event and were helped in handing out prizes by Morna Hunter of RHET and Julian Jardine. Over 20 prizes were given out to pupils across the primary and secondary schools of the area.
Julian Jardine will once again donate two places on his popular art workshops to the overall winners of both the primary and secondary categories. He has also kindly offered a third place to the runner-up in the Primary category, as he was so impressed at the level of work produced. RHET will be organising a farm visit for the overall winner of the Primary competition and her whole class. Both overall winners received engraved trophies. All those below received certificates and individual art prizes. It was a lovely event enjoyed by all. Once the clapping was complete, everyone went through for the grand unveiling of the artwork, which was then on display in the library for the rest of December.
Thanks must go to the teachers who champion this competition within their schools. Their time and enthusiasm for the art competition are key to its success. Thanks also to Blackadders Solicitors in Perth for funding the competition and our great partners, RHET, Perth and Kinross Council and Julian Jardine.
