Where do we go from here? Combining biodiversity with ecosystem services through agri-environment schemes.

Abstract

This paper is based on work carried out at the Allerton Project's research and demonstration farm in Leicestershire and explores the potential for integrating biodiversity conservation with other ecosystem service objectives through agri-environment schemes. Some individual management options meet multiple objectives while further benefits arise from their combination and from their integration into broader land use systems. Such complementarities are likely to add value for the tax payer and improve compatibility with the legal obligations and economic and cultural objectives of farmers.
