Population parameters for the Atlantic Alcidae.
Abstract
The auks in the North Atlantic are currently at risk from humanity's pollution and exploitation of the marine environment. Before conservation and management techniques can be implemented, it is necessary to understand the factors which influence the survival, recruitment and productivity of these species and to know how such factors interact so that predictions can be made of future population trends. This and the preceding two chapters review and summarize the data currently available in an attempt to highlight areas requiring further research and to act as a source of information to those conducting comparative studies or constructing management plans for alcid species under threat.
