The population of partridges (Perdix perdix) in Great Britain during 1936.
Abstract
This paper records the figures for the partridge population obtained from different estates during 1936 and the 1936-7 shooting season. Previous data of the same kind for most of the estates listed has been published (1, 3) as well as a description of the census techniques used (2). The work forms part of a research on game populations carried on by the Bureau of animal Population with the aid of a grant from Imperial Chemical Industries. I am again indebted to estate owners, shooting men and keepers for their help in keeping records of the partridge population and for giving me facilities for research on game preserves in many parts of the country.
