With the pheasant season starting on 1 October, leading conservation charity the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) has launched 12 key principles to support wildlife recovery alongside sustainable gamebird management.

In July the GWCT launched its 500 Club, a proactive move to boost membership and make up for some of the loss of voluntary donations and income estimated to be in the region of £1.4 million for 2020. The aim is to encourage more people to join as members and to celebrate those who commit to supporting the charity at this difficult time for everyone. The cancellation of numerous country shows, fundraising dinners and auctions due to COVID-19 has severely limited opportunities for fundraising.

Three generations of a Hertfordshire family have shown their passion for the countryside by passing the same conservation exam in short succession. Terry Humber encouraged both his son and grandson to join him in taking the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) Accredited Game Shot test to prove they were using the countryside responsibly.
