Merlin Magic is a new project that aims to help conserve merlin (Falco columbarius), a small falcon which has been red-listed as a Bird of Conservation Concern following recent declines in numbers. Scientists, gamekeepers, and raptor workers will collaborate to study breeding merlin on our moorlands and better understand how we can guide conservation to support both merlin and other species in upland habitats.
This project is funded by the government's Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its arm's-length bodies. It is being delivered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England, the Environment Agency and Forestry Commission.
You can find more information on the project, merlin themselves, and how our work is progressing on these pages.
