Thank you to all to all those who met in February at Barnard Castle for the 2025 Upland Game Conference. The overall message was clear: to safeguard a future for grouse moor management, upland estates across England and Scotland must work together and do their best to capture as much data as possible, using the latest technology.
As well as scientific and advisory updates, representatives from north and south of the Border spoke on the impact of licensing in Scotland and its potential implications for grouse management in England. For some reflections and commentary on the discussion and the conference in general watch this video:
Throughout the day there was consensus among the speakers that comprehensive long-term landscape-scale data sets gathered by practitioners were required both to demonstrate that private land managers are a good investment in terms of nature recovery and to avoid draconian legislation.
Thanks again and hope to see you next year!
