Sponsored by Hull Cartridge Company in aid of the GWCT
The beautifully located Dovey Valley Shooting Ground hosted the inaugural Welsh Side by Side Championship organised by Peter Croft, ex-Olympic coach. Held on 8 October, the day was blessed with lovely weather and a turnout from as far afield as the Midlands and South Wales.
The winners took away prizes of steel shot cartridges from the competition’s sponsors, the Hull Cartridge Company, and woodcock prints donated by Owen Williams, artist and GWCT Cymru chairman. The success of this clay competition bodes well for the event becoming a permanent fixture in the clay-shooting calendar.
Prizes were presented by Peter Croft and Owen Williams, who expressed gratitude to the organisers for donating a percentage of the day’s takings to support the important work done by GWCT Cymru.
Sam Usher won the Championship with an excellent 89, narrowly beating junior shot Edward Johnson who finished on 88.
Carol Wilson won the Ladies Championship and received an Owen Williams woodcock print.
There was a spot prize of an Owen Williams print for non prize winners. Drawn at the prizegiving, Mark Berrington took this home.
The organisers would like to thank:
- David Bontoft and Hull Cartridge Company for their generous sponsorship of non-toxic cartridges.
- Owen Williams for donating his woodcock prints.
- Alex Sayer of Strictly Shooting for her kindness in promoting the competition all over social media.
