Come to the GWCT Scottish Game Fair - one of the most exciting celebrations of countryside and conservation in the country

FP2-1500x 630

The GWCT Scottish Game Fair is looking forward to welcoming GWCT members and visitors from all over the world to experience one of the most exciting, diverse and atmospheric celebrations of the countryside and conservation in the country from Friday 30th June to Sunday 2nd July.

Be sure to visit the GWCT Stand which is next to the Main Ring where we have a number of exciting, interactive and informative tents:

  • The GWCT Central exhibit, which will be located next to the Main Ring, will showcase our ‘three-legged stool’ approach to conservation and sustainable game management. This approach revolves around providing habitat, ensuring good feed sources and promoting the benefits of legal predator control and will be our central exhibit. There will also be a display of live gamebirds.

  • Come and chat to our researchers and professional advisors in our Advisory Marquee about our wide-ranging work in the uplands, wetlands, lowlands and woodlands.
  • Our ever-popular Artists in Action tent is back with unique observations of wildlife. Our artists will be creating beautiful pieces over the three days on the GWCT’s ringside stand.

  • This year will also see the return of our Education Marquee which will include hands-on activities for children and a giant bird’s nest-style storytelling area. We are joined by some exciting partners in Confor who support sustainable forestry. The Scottish Deer Centre will be looking at British species of deer and conservation of more rare species along with the environmental impact of deer on our woodlands and environment.  The River Dee Trust will be showcasing the adventurous lifecycle of the Atlantic Salmon and the other wildlife that are special to our rivers, showing some of the work they do to create a thriving river supporting abundant biodiversity.  We also have Caledonian Environmental coming to tell us about the vital work they have been doing to keep our coasts clean.
  • The Listen to the Land tent in the GWCT area will host talks on photography, food, farming, fishing, conservation and more. The talks will be hosted by countryside writer and photographer Linda Mellor, who will also unveil a new book over the weekend. Confirmed speakers include authors, Mallachy Tallach, Merryn Glover, and Roger Morgan Grenville, as well as chef, writer, and presenter Tim Maddams who will be sharing his proposed model for reinventing game shooting, which encompasses the trip, hospitality, food, landscape and sport, to encourage a move away from the price-per-bird model.

There are a number of competitions, main ring events and ‘have-a-go’ activities, such as archery which offer something for all attendees. There will also be a variety of acts in the Main Ring including pipe bands, dog agility shows, falconry, gundogs and a unique demonstration by Balmoral Estate to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Hill Pony Society so be sure to visit www.scottishfair.com to plan your day and sign up for the Fair’s e-newsletter to keep up to date with all the news.
