Dyfan Jenkins moved up to Auchnerran in late October and started on our demonstration farm as its new head shepherd/livestock manager in early November, taking over the role from Allan Wright. Dyfan hails from Wales where he formerly worked on the family farm with its 3,000 breeding ewes – half hill flock and half lowland - in the Preseli mountains, much of which lies in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
He’s excited about the move and the new position, albeit arriving just in time for the minus 15-degree December cold snap on Deeside and elsewhere. He says he’s "aligned with the farm’s ambitions, is keen on exploring more progressive styles of farming, and trying different grazing regimes to bring the 1,400 strong Auchnerran breeding flock on."
He moves up with his partner Bronte and little Mali (just 1, born during Storm Arwen) and their eight working dogs, one of his passions, another being supporting Welsh Rugby. Luckily he’s managed to get the Wales TV channel up and running!
