This year the Biometrics team has three students who are on placement here at the GWCT. Rachel Cook and George Scarisbrick from Bangor University will be working with the GIS team and moving to Wetlands during the fieldwork season in April; Ellie Raynor (from Manchester Metropolitan University) will be assisting with the EU-Interreg PARTRIDGE project for the entire year.

If we are to reverse the ‘relentless’ wildlife declines we are witnessing, we need a fresh approach (UK biodiversity targets missed as funding and species decline, 16 October). Public sector spending on conservation is crucial but will never fulfil its potential without inspiring those who are already making a real change.

A new scientific paper in the journal Wildlife Biology came out this week (12 October), led by GWCT Head of Lowland Research Dr Rufus Sage, which delves into the effects of released pheasants and red-legged partridges on wildlife and the environment.
