DEFRA has concluded its review into releasing gamebirds on and around protected sites (see here), which we have responded to here. The announcement published on Friday 30th October is not effective in Wales. However, we can expect that Welsh Government will also be considering this matter and will make their own decision on the matter before too long.
In Wales, NRW are fighting their own Judicial Review against Wild Justice, looking at the legality of the General Licences which NRW put in place following a review in October 2019 and reissued in January 2020. This is due to go to hearing in mid-December. They are also conducting their own review into the shooting and trapping of wild birds.
