Those that enjoy watching reintroduced red kites, ospreys and sea eagles flying above southern England would have been startled by your report on hen harriers (RSPB ‘shot down return of rare bird of prey over illegal killings’, Jul 27). Thirty years ago we had to travel to Wales to see red kites, yet following the successful reintroduction of Spanish kites to the Chilterns we now has a thriving population of 1,800 pairs. It’s bizarre anyone should not want hen harriers to be given the same opportunity.
