Guest blog by Market Visibility, a company who offer a range of services to help organisations prepare for, and adapt to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In December of 2015, the European Union (EU) voted to implement the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in place of the outdated Data Protection Directive (DPD.) GDPR will come into force on 25th May 2018 to significantly improve the protection of personal data for EU citizens. GDPR builds upon many of the existing DPD requirements for data privacy and security and includes several new provisions to fortify the rights of data subjects.
The introduction of a mandatory and uniform fine under GDPR is a notable change from the Directive where fines would be small and were rarely applied. For those organisations that may have taken steps in the right direction but are possibly not doing everything they can to protect personal data, fines of up to 20 million Euros or 4% of global turnover (whichever is greater) could be imposed, depending on the violation.
Opportunity knocks
The volume of jobs quoting GDPR has seen a huge rise since 2017 and as the demand for these skills increases the supply of qualified candidates is becoming limited. Achieving a GDPR qualification will give you greater choice and opportunity to work in this field. Organisations will need to actively seek/upskill employees so that they have key individuals or managers in place who understand the requirements of the GDPR and can audit and understand the distinct types of data you process or control.
Market Visibility are BCS Accredited and offer a range of GDPR Courses including Induction and Practitioner qualifications. These courses are exam based and comprise mainly of short intensive learning that can be quickly implemented in the work place.
How we can help
It is undeniable that GDPR is going to affect all of us in some way and what we need to do is start moving rapidly towards compliance. You will need to consider all the additional data that will now be protected under GDPR and begin assessing how much of that data your organisation collects or processes.
Market Visibility provides a one-stop solution to effectively prepare you for the introduction of GDPR. A good start would be to attend one of the many Awareness and Implementation Strategy Sessions that are happening across the Country. You can also go directly to www.marketvisibility.co.uk to book a course and find information on the Software and CRM Systems available plus get lots of information on GDPR and what you will need to implement before May 25th.
