You will have heard of cases where science has sometimes been ignored or misrepresented. Some topics are still causing controversy:
- Lead shot
- Genetically modified food
- Neonicotinoid insecticides
At the next Westminster APPG for Game & Wildlife Conservation in April, we will hear scientists, MPs and policymakers discuss controversial topics where the debate has not been informed by independent research, and how we overcome the challenge of science being misrepresented to decision makers and the public.
Can you help us get your MP there?
These are important issues, but MPs are busy people. Why not contact your MP and ask if they are planning to attend?
Tuesday 26 April – 12.30 - 1.30pm – The Jubilee Room, Westminster Hall
You can search for your MP’s details here by just typing in your postcode. Please send your MP an email today asking them to attend - here is the official invitation.
If you can persuade your MP to come, why not be there to greet them yourself? If space permits, GWCT members can also come along* to welcome their MP to the meeting. If you would like to do this, please contact Annabel Cook at acook@gwct.org.uk for more information before Friday 22 April.
The Game & Wildlife Conservation All-Party Parliamentary Group – debate
This group is very interested in how science, research and demonstration feed into legal reviews and evidence-based policy. The influence of the media might be acting as judge, jury and executioner on a number of environmental policies, which can make independent analysis more difficult. It could be argued that we are in danger of losing a balanced approach to policy decision-making by not reviewing all the evidence.
*Must have been a GWCT member for at least the past 12 months.
