Members may be interested to learn that Scottish Land & Estates is holding a Rural Crime Awareness Event, which will take place on Thursday 1 October at Lochinch Stables, Stranraer. This event aims to provide an opportunity to share information about rural crime, its prevention and other matters, and is free of charge and open to everyone.
During the day speakers from Police Scotland and Anderson Strathern will inform land managers and stakeholders about rural crime and other associated matters that impact on them.
- Sergeant Neil McPherson of Police Scotland and Jonathan Guy of Anderson Strathern on firearms legislation, with specific reference to rural business.
- Inspector Stuart Wilson of Police Scotland on rural crime, reporting and handling of crime, improving communication and the dangers of social media.
- Chief Inspector David McCallum of Police Scotland and John Mitchell of Anderson Strathern on wildlife crime and the reporting and handling of wildlife crime.
- Jonathan Guy of Anderson Strathern on health and safety regulation with particular focus on rural businesses.
Additionally, Kenny Willmitt from BASC Scotland will facilitate an exhibition of legally and illegally set snares and traps. All presentations will carry an opportunity for questions and answers.
