Since it was established in 2009, CFE (Campaign for Farmed Environment) has been monitored by the Defra Survey of Land Under Environmental Management and the results for each year of this survey can be found here.
The survey has shown headline figures such as:
- Farmers have invested an average of 400, 000 ha in environmental measures over a 3 year period through CFE.
- 97% of farmers see protecting farm wildlife as important.
From 2017 this survey will be run as an online survey and will be an important record of the voluntary environmental management carried out on farms across England.
CFE partners are encouraging all farmers to complete this quick online survey to demonstrate how farmers are supporting CFE.

Jim Egan, from GWCT’s Allerton Project, chairs the CFE National Delivery Group and says “ Taking part in this survey is a great way for farmers to record the voluntary work being undertaken on many farms outside agri-environment schemes; it’s an opportunity to shout about environmental management and demonstratate how it can sit alongside good profitable food production”
