Species Recovery Assistant, GWCT Uplands
Holly grew up in the Durham Dales and joined the GWCT in 2023 as a Research Assistant working on camera traps and ground-nesting waders, and long-term red and black grouse population monitoring. Prior to joining the GWCT she completed a BSc and MRes at Durham University and worked as a countryside ranger in Cumbria and Northumberland and grouse beater on many local estates.
What is your favourite GWCT wildlife project or initiative?
The Black Grouse Range Expansion Project is my favourite GWCT project because it showcases how collaborative working between researchers, gamekeepers, landowners, and Natural England can help re-establish an iconic species back into its former range.
What is the best thing about your job?
Spending the best days of the year outside, walking the fells, being surrounded by wildlife and working with some incredible people who care so much about our natural heritage.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t compare yourself to others and appreciate what you’ve got right in front of you.
